What’s Around Silverland Sakyo: A Walking Guide from Le Thanh Ton to Dong Khoi

This guide is for two kinds of travellers: those still comparing hotels in Ho Chi Minh City who want to know what Silverland Sakyo’s neighbourhood actually offers, and those who have already booked and are wondering where to go on the first afternoon. Every place below comes with an address and opening hours, arranged in the order of a day.

Updated October 2026. Opening hours and details are checked against each venue’s own published information. Hours can change on public holidays.

What’s around Silverland Sakyo: the quick answer

  • Closest to the door: Little Tokyo right outside, Bason Café Sakyo on the ground floor of the hotel (7:00 to 22:00) and L’Usine on the same street (7:30 to 18:00).
  • Within walking distance: Vincom Center Dong Khoi, MUJI, the apartment-block boutiques at 26 Ly Tu Trong, ARTBOOK, Vietnam House (listed in the MICHELIN Guide), the Saigon Opera House, the City People’s Committee building and the top of Nguyen Hue Walking Street.
  • Hours to remember: the shopping centres open at 10:00 (9:30 at weekends) and L’Usine closes at 18:00.
  • Do I need a taxi? The main stops sit along Le Thanh Ton and Dong Khoi and can be walked. Ben Thanh Market, the museums and the Independence Palace need a ride.
  • Evening: dinner at Vietnam House or in Little Tokyo, then a drink at 2 Lam Son (open from 17:00).

Le Thanh Ton has a quality worth noticing: within a few turns you move from lanes tied to Little Tokyo to the landmarks of central Saigon. Directly in front of Silverland Sakyo is Little Tokyo, with Japanese signage and side streets running towards Thai Van Lung and Thi Sach. A little further towards Hai Ba Trung, the street shifts to shopping centres and international brands around the Dong Khoi crossing. Beyond that lie Lam Son Square, the Saigon Opera House and the open plaza at the head of Nguyen Hue.

So what shapes a good day here is not distance but timing. Shopping centres open at 10:00, and the neighbourhood’s best-known café does not open in the evening.

If you’re still choosing a hotel: who this neighbourhood suits

The strength of this location is specific: you can split a day into short outings and return to your room between them. Breakfast, then back for your laptop. Shopping, then drop the bags before moving on. A rest before dinner. In areas a few kilometres from the centre, every return trip costs a ride, so most guests end up carrying everything around all day.

This is not a party district. Evenings here mean Japanese restaurants, a hotel rooftop bar and a walking street rather than loud music spilling onto the pavement.

One thing to know in advance: the places in this guide are for eating, shopping, architecture and strolling. Ben Thanh Market sits at the far end of Le Thanh Ton itself, while the museums and the Independence Palace lie further away. If your plans centre on historic sights, allow a few rides during the day.

The rest of this guide follows the rhythm of a day, from morning coffee to the last drink, with two walking loops for the afternoon you arrive.

Right outside: Little Tokyo on Le Thanh Ton

Silverland Sakyo is at 10A-10B-10C Le Thanh Ton, in the area known as Little Tokyo, which spreads from Le Thanh Ton into Thai Van Lung and Thi Sach. It is a real Japanese neighbourhood where Japanese residents live and work, not a district built for visitors.

A lantern-lit Little Tokyo lane on Le Thanh Ton, a minute from Silverland Sakyo

The rhythm here builds towards the evening. In the daytime the side streets are fairly quiet, which is why it is worth giving Thai Van Lung a full evening rather than passing through at three in the afternoon. For help choosing where to eat, our Japan Town Saigon guide walks through the area block by block.

First-time visitors often assume they must choose between an evening in Little Tokyo and a day in the city centre. In practice the two areas sit close together but keep a different pace, and they are better treated as two separate outings than squeezed into one.

By day, most guests go the other way: turn your back on Thi Sach and follow Le Thanh Ton towards Hai Ba Trung.

Morning: coffee before the neighbourhood opens

Before 10:00, most shops nearby are still closed. That gap is the best time for a slow breakfast.

L’Usine Le Thanh Ton

19 Le Thanh Ton, on the same street as the hotel. Café, breakfast and a shop under one roof.

L’Usine is open daily from 7:30 to 18:00, with last orders 30 minutes before closing. That shapes how to plan it: this is a daytime address. A coffee at eight in the morning or a break in the middle of the afternoon both fit well, but a dinner reservation belongs elsewhere.

It is close enough that you can finish breakfast, pop back to the room for your laptop and carry on without an extra ride.

When you’d rather not go out

Some mornings do not need a trip outside. Bason Café Sakyo on the hotel’s ground floor is open from 7:00 to 22:00, so it works as a coffee before you head out, an easy meeting point for friends, and a place to sit in the evening when you do not feel like going anywhere. Guests who have breakfast at the hotel eat at the Hareta hi restaurant on the mezzanine floor, where the breakfast buffet runs from 5:30 to 10:00.

Do not line up both cafés in the same morning just to complete a list. One favourite address is enough to make a morning memorable.

It sounds small, but it covers three awkward gaps in a day: early morning before a meeting, the hot hours around noon, and late evening after dinner. All three have a seat downstairs.

Mid-morning: indoors, out of the heat, and the 10:00 rule

Vincom Center Dong Khoi

72 Le Thanh Ton and 45A Ly Tu Trong, with three entrances onto Dong Khoi, Le Thanh Ton and Ly Tu Trong. Open 10:00 to 22:00, and from 9:30 on Saturday and Sunday.

From the hotel, Vincom Center Dong Khoi is in a straight line: follow Le Thanh Ton to the Dong Khoi junction and the mall front is on your left. With three entrances you can walk in from whichever side is closest, which helps on a rainy day.

One small note on the way out: three entrances also means three different streets. Check the street name at the door before you step outside, especially if you are heading on to Dong Khoi rather than back to the hotel.

The 10:00 opening matters more than anything else in this section. In the early morning both Vincom and Parkson are closed, so the outdoor sights, the Saigon Opera House and the front of the City People’s Committee building, are the better first stops.

Lunch: Vietnam House or the Vincom food court

On a weekday, the food court inside Vincom is the quick choice if you have a meeting afterwards. With a longer lunch, there is a more considered table on Dong Khoi.

Vietnam House

93-97 Dong Khoi. Contemporary Vietnamese cooking in a French colonial villa. Serving 11:30 to 15:00 and 17:30 to 22:00.

Vietnam House is listed in the MICHELIN Guide, which describes the lunch set as about right for a solo diner while the à la carte portions are generous enough for a larger table. It is led by chef Luke Nguyen and sits a few steps from Vincom on Dong Khoi.

Afternoon: MUJI, an old apartment block, and a rooftop with history

MUJI Le Thanh Ton

Floors 1 and 2, 35Bis-45 Le Thanh Ton, inside Parkson Saigon Tourist Plaza. Open 10:00 to 22:00.

MUJI Le Thanh Ton was the brand’s first store in Vietnam. It closed for a renovation and reopened in late November 2025 with more than 3,300 m² over two floors, now the largest MUJI in the country.

What matters to a visitor is not the size but the MUJI Café inside: 80 seats, the largest in MUJI’s Vietnam network. That gives you a place to sit down mid-afternoon on the walking route without going back to the hotel for a drink. The store also has self-checkout, an aroma section, a plant area and a few products sold only in Vietnam, such as denim cut for Vietnamese proportions.

If you buy a lot, plan the way back. The hotel is a straight walk down Le Thanh Ton, so leaving the bags in your room and continuing to Dong Khoi is easier than carrying them all afternoon.

26 Ly Tu Trong

26 Ly Tu Trong, across from Vincom. Four floors of fashion, small shops and cafés in an old apartment block.

From the Dong Khoi junction, turn onto Ly Tu Trong and you reach a row of old apartment blocks that have become home to Vietnamese fashion labels. Number 26 is the best known, with four floors of shops and cafés, and the New Playground complex sits underground next door.

Most people walk past without knowing what stands two numbers along. Number 22 in the same row, then called the Pittman Apartments, housed United States Agency for International Development staff before 1975, and its roof is the one in Hubert van Es’s photograph of the helicopter evacuation on 29 April 1975. From the street it is hard to picture, but once you know, this stretch of road reads differently.

Shops in the old block open and close on their own schedules, so going while it is still light is the safer plan.

Books and gifts on Dong Khoi

ARTBOOK

43 Dong Khoi. Art, photography, architecture and design books, plus Vietnamese gifts.

ARTBOOK devotes most of its floor to large-format books on painting, architecture and fashion, with a corner of ceramics and handmade gifts nearby.

Large photo books are heavy, so leave room in your suitcase for the weight as well as the space.

Evening: dinner, then a drink or a stroll

The nearest dinner is the one already mentioned: Vietnam House reopens at 17:30 on the Dong Khoi axis you have just walked. Booking a table also fixes the time you stop shopping.

2 Lam Son

Lobby level, Park Hyatt Saigon, 2 Lam Son Square. Open from 17:00. Smart casual dress code.

2 Lam Son is a cocktail bar facing the Saigon Opera House, a short walk from the hotel across Hai Ba Trung. Its DJ schedule sets the mood: Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 21:00 to midnight, and on Friday from 19:00.

So the question is not whether to go but when. If you want to talk, arrive before the DJ starts. If you want music and a crowd, arrive after. The dress code is smart casual, worth remembering if you have been walking all afternoon and plan to drop in straight from the street.

A comfortable evening does not need three stops. What matters is choosing which side of the neighbourhood you actually want to stay in.

If you would rather keep moving than sit down, the head of Nguyen Hue on the Le Thanh Ton side is the most pleasant stretch after dinner. Go as far as you like and turn back the way you came.

Three outdoor sights

The fountain at the head of Nguyen Hue Walking Street, walkable from Silverland Sakyo

Saigon Opera House (Municipal Theatre)

From the hotel follow Le Thanh Ton, cross Hai Ba Trung and you reach Lam Son Square. The façade is at its best early in the morning and just as the lights come on. Admiring the exterior is one thing and buying a ticket for a performance inside is another. To go inside, check the performance schedule and buy a ticket in advance, since it is not a sight with open entry all day; if there is a show you want to see, choose the performance first and then fit dinner around it.

Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee building

Still on the Le Thanh Ton axis, this building is for viewing and photographing from outside. In late afternoon the low light hits the yellow façade, a time many people choose for photographs, and a few dozen more steps lead down to the plaza at the head of Nguyen Hue.

Top of Nguyen Hue Walking Street

Continue on from the People’s Committee building. It is an open space with no ticket and no closing time, which makes it a good fallback on evenings when you do not want to plan anything. We suggest pairing the Opera House and Nguyen Hue in the late afternoon rather than at midday: you have time to look properly at the Opera House façade, then choose a stretch of Nguyen Hue that suits your energy instead of forcing yourself to walk its whole length.

Two walking routes

Short loop: getting your bearings after check-in

For the afternoon you arrive, when you simply want to know where you are.

  1. From the hotel door, follow Le Thanh Ton to Hai Ba Trung, enter Lam Son Square and stop in front of the Saigon Opera House.
  2. Go round to Dong Khoi and walk back along Le Thanh Ton, past Vincom and Parkson.
  3. Continue to the front of the People’s Committee building, look in at the head of Nguyen Hue, then return the way you came.

The whole loop runs along one axis, so you can cut it short anywhere. If your feet are tired, turn back at the Opera House.

Long loop: shopping, then the evening

Start in mid-afternoon, when the shops are open.

  1. Le Thanh Ton to MUJI in Parkson.
  2. On to Vincom, or turn into Ly Tu Trong to see number 26 and the New Playground.
  3. Out to Dong Khoi and stop at ARTBOOK.
  4. Along Nguyen Thiep to Nguyen Hue and towards the People’s Committee building.
  5. Back to the hotel along Le Thanh Ton and drop your bags before dinner.

If you plan to try on a lot of clothes, trim the Nguyen Hue section and save it for after dinner. If you linger longer in the bookshop than planned, drop a stop rather than rushing.

Tips for planning your day

The lobby of Silverland Sakyo on Le Thanh Ton Street
  • Before 10:00: do the outdoor sights (Opera House, People’s Committee building, Nguyen Hue), because Vincom and Parkson are not open yet.
  • Before 18:00: L’Usine closes at 18:00, so fit it into the daytime.
  • Rainy day: Vincom has three entrances, so use the one nearest to you and cut down the wet stretch.
  • Heavy shopping: call in at MUJI or ARTBOOK, leave the bags at the hotel, then carry on.
  • An evening drink where you can talk: arrive at 2 Lam Son before the DJ sets (Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 21:00, Friday from 19:00).

Frequently asked questions

What is there to do within walking distance of Silverland Sakyo?

Morning coffee on Le Thanh Ton, the Vincom and Parkson shopping centres at the Dong Khoi junction, the apartment-block shops on Ly Tu Trong, the ARTBOOK bookshop and Vietnam House on Dong Khoi, the Saigon Opera House and the head of Nguyen Hue Walking Street. Almost everything lies along the same axis, so it can be done on foot.

How do I walk from the hotel to the Saigon Opera House?

Follow Le Thanh Ton, cross Hai Ba Trung and continue to Lam Son Square, with the theatre directly ahead. If you are going for a performance, allow extra time for entry as shown on your ticket.

What can I do before 10:00 in the morning?

Vincom Center Dong Khoi opens at 10:00 (9:30 at weekends), so early mornings suit the outdoor sights: the Opera House façade, the People’s Committee building and a stroll on Nguyen Hue. For coffee, Bason Café Sakyo on the hotel’s ground floor opens at 7:00 and L’Usine on Le Thanh Ton at 7:30.

Can I go inside the Opera House and the People’s Committee building?

The walking routes here are for viewing the architecture from outside. To go into the Opera House you need a ticket to a performance. The People’s Committee building is for viewing and photographing from the outside.

Will I need to book a lot of rides?

Most stops in this guide are on the Le Thanh Ton and Dong Khoi axis and can be walked. You will need a ride for Ben Thanh Market, the museums, the Independence Palace, or meals in other districts. On a rainy day or when carrying a lot, a ride for the last stretch is still more comfortable.

Little Tokyo or Nguyen Hue in the evening?

Choose Little Tokyo when you want to give the whole evening to a restaurant in the lanes around Thai Van Lung, right outside the hotel. Choose Nguyen Hue when you want an open-air stroll after dinner, close to the central landmarks. If you would like to sit down with a cocktail, 2 Lam Son in the Park Hyatt lobby, facing the Opera House, opens at 17:00 and has a DJ on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 21:00 and on Friday from 19:00. Arrive before then if you want conversation. The two directions give two different evenings, and there is no need to squeeze both into one night.

A day here is planned by the clock, not the map

Distance is hardly an issue in this part of town. The most interesting stretches are all within walking range of Silverland Sakyo’s door, so what decides the quality of a day is where you are at what time: outdoors before 10:00, indoors at midday, on Dong Khoi in daylight, and Little Tokyo saved for the evening.

If you have already booked, the simplest way to use this guide is to pick one of the two loops for your first afternoon and fit the rest into their opening hours. Before you head out, check the day’s opening hours and the afternoon weather, the two things that most often upset a walking plan in Saigon.

In a centre with many choices, knowing when to stop can matter more than knowing one more address. You might end your walk at the Opera House, rest at the hotel and only then choose dinner, or keep the whole evening for the lanes of Little Tokyo.

And if you are still comparing hotels, the question worth weighing is not the amenities list but the walking radius: on this stretch of Le Thanh Ton a day can be split into short outings with a return to your room in between. Room and service details are on the Silverland Sakyo page.
