Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line 1: Map, Hours and Fares in 2026

Metro Line 1 runs from Ben Thanh in the heart of District 1 out to Suoi Tien in the east of the city, on a single line with no changes. If you are staying downtown, the easiest way to use it is to pick where you are going first, then pick the station that suits that day’s plan.

Ben Thanh station on the Ho Chi Minh metro seen from above, with Ben Thanh Market behind
  • 14 stations, Ben Thanh to Suoi Tien Bus Station, close to 19 km end to end.
  • Hours: 5am to 10pm Monday to Thursday; 5am to 11pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • Single fares: 7,000 to 20,000 VND in cash, 6,000 to 19,000 VND paying by card or app.
  • Day pass 40,000 VND, three-day pass 90,000 VND, unlimited rides.
  • This line does not serve Tan Son Nhat Airport.
  • For Suoi Tien Theme Park, get off at Dai Hoc Quoc Gia, not at the station called Suoi Tien Bus Station.

One habit worth forming on your first ride: check the return direction before you leave the hotel. Knowing which station you come back to, and roughly when the last train runs, makes a long dinner in Thao Dien a lot more relaxed.

Ho Chi Minh City metro map: all 14 stations

The line follows one axis, so all you need to remember is the station order and which direction you are travelling. The first three stations are underground; the remaining eleven are elevated.

The last two station names trip up a lot of visitors. The entrance to Suoi Tien Theme Park is beside Dai Hoc Quoc Gia station. Suoi Tien Bus Station is one stop further and serves the bus terminal. Ride to the end of the line and you will have to come back one stop.

Two shopping stops sit directly beside stations: Vincom Mega Mall Thao Dien at Thao Dien, and Estella Place at An Phu.

Metro Line 1 operating hours

The line opens at 5am every day. Closing time depends on the day of the week:

DaysOperating hoursFrequency
Monday to Thursday5am to 10pmEvery 6 to 7 minutes at peak, 8 to 15 minutes otherwise
Friday5am to 11pmEvery 6 to 7 minutes at peak, 8 to 15 minutes otherwise
Saturday and Sunday5am to 11pmEvery 7 to 15 minutes

These hours have held across every published 2026 timetable, including the summer schedule that ran to 16 August 2026. The revisions changed the number of daily services and the gap between trains, not the opening and closing times.

Closing time and the last train from your station are two different numbers. The final city-bound train leaves Thao Dien earlier than the 10pm or 11pm figure. Platform displays show the next service in each direction, so photographing the board for the return direction on your way out in the morning is the quickest fix. Station staff will also tell you if you ask.

Public holidays run on their own timetable, usually with extended hours. Over the five peak days of the 2 September 2026 national holiday, trains ran 5am to 11pm every day.

Metro fares and how to pay

Single fares are charged by station pair, under the appendix to Decision 5327/QD-UBND issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee on 21 November 2024. Paying by card or app costs exactly 1,000 VND less than cash on every journey.

TicketPrice
Single journey, cash7,000 to 20,000 VND by distance
Single journey, card or app6,000 to 19,000 VND by distance
Day pass, unlimited rides40,000 VND
Three-day pass, unlimited rides90,000 VND
Monthly pass300,000 VND
Monthly pass, students150,000 VND

Fares from the three city-centre stations

Visitors staying downtown will almost always board at one of the first three stations. The figures below come from the fare appendix, per person per journey, with the card or app price in brackets.

FromThao DienAn PhuThu DucDai Hoc Quoc Gia (Suoi Tien)Suoi Tien Bus Station
Ben Thanh7,000 (6,000)7,000 (6,000)14,000 (13,000)18,000 (17,000)20,000 (19,000)

Worth noticing: every journey within the first seven stations, meaning anywhere from the centre out to An Phu, costs the same 7,000 VND in cash or 6,000 VND by card. Dinner in Thao Dien and a trip to Landmark 81 at Tan Cang cost the same as riding one stop.

Three worked examples

Two people visiting Suoi Tien for the day, boarding at Ben Thanh. A card fare to Dai Hoc Quoc Gia is 17,000 VND. Out and back for two people: 17,000 × 2 journeys × 2 people = 68,000 VND. Two day passes would be 80,000 VND, so singles save you 12,000 VND.

When a day pass actually pays off. The 40,000 VND day pass only wins once your single fares pass 40,000 VND in one day. Even on the longest ride at 19,000 VND, two journeys come to 38,000 VND, still under the pass. You need three long rides, or a day of hopping between stops, before the pass saves money.

Four people, one short ride. Opera House to Thao Dien costs 7,000 × 4 = 28,000 VND in cash, or 6,000 × 4 = 24,000 VND by card. That typically beats a four-seat ride-hailing car over the same route, especially at rush hour when Saigon Bridge backs up.

Ways to pay

  • HCMC Metro HURC app: choose your route, pay, and get a QR code on your phone. Best once you know the line.
  • Ticket machines in the station: select your destination on screen and pay by cash or card. Worth using on your first trip, since staff stand nearby to help.
  • Tapping a bank card at the gate: the fastest option, but you must use the same card or the same device to enter and to exit. Start with your phone and you have to finish with that phone.
  • Ticket counters: for day, three-day and monthly passes.

Foreign bank cards work if they run on a payment network the gates accept and your bank allows contactless transactions abroad. The network logos are printed on the reader itself. Carry a little cash for your first ride in case a card is declined.

Children under 6, older passengers, people with disabilities and people recognised for service to the country travel free under city policy. Bring documentation showing a child’s age in case staff ask.

Riding the metro for the first time

Find the right entrance

Underground stations have several entrances a hundred metres or more apart. At Ben Thanh, Exit 3 is on Phan Chu Trinh Street right beside the market, while Exit 1 on the 23/9 Park side has a lift and escalators, which helps with luggage or a pram.

When you search on your phone, pick the named entrance rather than the general station pin. The general pin usually sits in the middle of the underground box and will walk you to a spot with no door.

Buy a ticket and go through the gates

Select your destination, read the fare on screen, then pay. Keep your ticket or QR code for the whole trip, because the exit gate scans again. Having the code open on your phone before you reach the reader helps when one hand is still on a suitcase.

Check the direction before boarding

Heading east from the centre, follow signs for Suoi Tien Bus Station. Coming back into town, follow Ben Thanh. The two directions are on opposite sides of the platform, so a glance at the sign before you take the stairs is enough.

Wait behind the safety line and let passengers off before you board. With luggage or shopping bags, keep them close and leave the doorway clear.

Getting out at the right exit

Once through the gates, read the exit map by street name or landmark. If you are heading to a particular restaurant, picking the exit on its side of the road saves you a crossing.

Does the metro go to Tan Son Nhat Airport?

Metro Line 1 runs between Ben Thanh and Suoi Tien Bus Station and has no airport station. Getting to Tan Son Nhat means a taxi, a ride-hailing car or a bus.

When booking, specify the domestic or international terminal shown on your ticket, and allow extra time for traffic on Truong Son Street. Our guide to getting from Tan Son Nhat Airport to District 1 compares the options.

Walking to the metro from Silverland hotels

The Silverland hotels below and The Myst Dong Khoi all sit within walking distance of the first three stations. The distances below were measured on Google Maps on 13 October 2026, from the hotel door to the station point on the map.

HotelNearest stationWalk
Silverland Ben Thanh, 14-16 Le LaiBen Thanh280 m, about 4 minutes
Silverland Yen, 73-75 Thu Khoa HuanBen Thanh or Opera House750 m, about 11 minutes to either
Silverland Sakyo, 10A-10B-10C Le Thanh TonBa Son450 m, about 6 minutes
Silverland Sil, 20-22-24 Thai Van LungBa Son750 m, about 10 minutes
Silverland May, 28-30 Thi SachOpera House or Ba Son700 m, about 10 minutes to either
Silverland Jolie, 4D Thi SachOpera House700 m, about 10 minutes
The Myst Dong Khoi, 4-6-8 Ho Huan NghiepOpera House600 m, about 8 minutes

Two things are worth knowing when you choose a station. Silverland Sakyo is much closer to Ba Son at 450 m, while the walk to the Opera House station is more than twice as far. Silverland Sil also leans towards Ba Son, though the margin is small. For Silverland May and Silverland Yen the two stations are effectively tied, so choose by where you are going: the eastern station heading out to Suoi Tien, the other for Ben Thanh Market.

Browse the Silverland hotels to pick a base that matches the places you plan to visit more than once. Our guide to the best area to stay in Ho Chi Minh City compares the neighbourhoods in more detail.

Places worth the ride

Ben Thanh Market. Ben Thanh station, Exit 3 on the Phan Chu Trinh side puts you at the east gate. If you are staying nearby, shop in the morning, drop everything at the hotel, then head east in the afternoon.

The Opera House and Dong Khoi. Opera House station. Lam Son Square is right there and connects on foot to the Nguyen Hue walking street. For a performance, buy tickets from the organiser first and plan dinner around the start time.

Landmark 81 and Tan Cang. Tan Cang station. This ride costs the same 7,000 VND as one stop, which makes it a better bet than a car at rush hour.

Thao Dien. Thao Dien station, with Vincom Mega Mall beside it and the restaurant strip a few minutes further. This is the stop that keeps people out late, so check the last city-bound train before you settle in.

Suoi Tien Theme Park. Get off at Dai Hoc Quoc Gia and walk to the gate. Park admission is sold separately. Families with small children should give Suoi Tien a full day and plan an early train back.

Frequently asked questions

What time does Metro Line 1 stop running?

The line runs 5am to 10pm Monday to Thursday, and 5am to 11pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The last train from any given station leaves earlier than the closing time, so check the platform display or ask staff on your first ride of the day.

How much does the Ho Chi Minh City metro cost?

Single fares run from 7,000 to 20,000 VND in cash, or 6,000 to 19,000 VND by card or app, charged by station pair. Every journey from the city centre out as far as An Phu is at the lowest fare.

Is a day pass worth it for two rides?

No. The 40,000 VND day pass only beats single fares once your rides total more than 40,000 VND in a day. Two journeys on the longest stretch come to 38,000 VND by card, still less than the pass.

Where do I buy metro tickets?

Through the HCMC Metro HURC app, at ticket machines inside the station, or by tapping a bank card at the gate. First-time riders should use a machine in the station, where staff can help you pick the right destination.

Can I use a foreign bank card?

Yes, if the card runs on a network the gates accept and your bank permits contactless payments abroad. Check the network logos on the reader, and carry some cash for your first ride as a backup.

My card worked on entry but not on exit. What now?

Ask the staff at the gate to check the transaction using the same card or device you tapped on the way in. The payment notification on your phone helps them match it faster.

Do young children need a ticket?

Children under 6 travel free under city policy and must be accompanied by an adult. Carry something showing the child’s age in case station staff ask.

Which station is Suoi Tien Theme Park?

Dai Hoc Quoc Gia, the 13th station. The final station, Suoi Tien Bus Station, serves the new Mien Dong bus terminal rather than the park entrance.

Does the metro reach Tan Son Nhat Airport?

No. Line 1 runs between Ben Thanh and Suoi Tien Bus Station, with no airport station. Travel to the airport by taxi, ride-hailing car or bus.

Can I take a suitcase on the train?

Yes, hand luggage travels with you as normal. No published size limit applies specifically to this line, so if you are carrying an oversized case, ask station staff before you go through the gates. Trains are busy at the morning and evening peaks, so travelling outside those hours gives you more room.

What if I miss the last train?

Take a taxi or a ride-hailing car. Use a legal pick-up point outside the station and enter the full hotel name with the street number, so your driver does not take you to a different property under the same brand.

Which station should I use from my Silverland hotel?

Silverland Ben Thanh uses Ben Thanh, just 280 m away. Silverland Sakyo and Silverland Sil use Ba Son. Silverland Jolie and The Myst Dong Khoi use the Opera House station. Silverland Yen and Silverland May sit between two stations at much the same distance, so choose by where you are heading that day.
