AND THE SUN IS STILL SHINING AT SILVERLAND SAKYO HOTEL

A new day begins. Whether it is the crowded train stations from all directions to Tokyo, or the interwoven roads from all directions to the center of Saigon, the sun still dances on the treetops, bringing bright light to shine on every face. Stepping through the large glass doors of Silverland Sakyo Hotel, standing on the high steps, taking a deep breath of the peaceful morning air, let's welcome a new day with us.

Silverland Sakyo Hotel has just had a big transformation, we used to be one of the luxury boutique hotels in this Little Japan town very early, with the dynamic spirit and passionate heart of both Tokyo and Saigon. And after more than a decade, we have changed.

Silverland Sakyo Hotel - Zen design

Like an adult after experiencing all the noise of life, today's Silverland Sakyo Hotel carries within them the story of the calm after the hustle and bustle of the streets, to observe the inner self with visitors, deeply feel the tranquility of the natural world, and suddenly realize the beauty in simplicity and imperfection.

古びた傷跡を受け入れ、

自然に物語を語らせよ。

(Furubita kisugato wo ukeire,

shizen ni monogatari wo kataraseyo.)

“Accept maturity, the traces,

and let nature tell its own story.”

The gray stone wall right in the lobby of Silverland Sakyo hotel is imbued with the spirit of “quiet - calm - meditation”. The almost perfectly flat surface with the minimalist beauty of the stone wall represents a key element in all contemporary Japanese architecture. The sparkling water pouring down from above both supports and contributes to the harmony of the surrounding landscape, the tall trees on the street, the naturally arranged grass bushes, the sunlight, and the people. The stones are assembled in a delicate, clear ratio, giving a sense of control but balance and precision. All, right at that step, evokes for anyone a sense of impermanence, lightness, a very wabi-sabi philosophy, the beauty of imperfection.

Driftwood – A Symbol of Time and Resilience

Step through the door, and you are greeted by a miniature driftwood landscape (流木 - nagare boku - driftwood). In Japanese architecture and culture, driftwood is not only a decorative material, but also carries many profound philosophical meanings, closely associated with the aesthetics and spirit of the Japanese. Driftwood symbolizes oldness and time. Once again, we carry the wabi-sabi spirit of accepting impermanence, imperfections, and beauty hidden in simplicity. Instead of new, smooth materials, Silverland Sakyo respects every crack, every scar, every curve of the wood as part of natural history.

Driftwood is also a harmony between humans and nature, expressing the submission of each small human being to nature without forcing matter to follow our will, instead, we accept everything as it is. Driftwood also symbolizes the journey of time, although floating along the water, enduring abrasion, changing shape, but still resiliently existing. Just like the spirit of Zen, the symbol of driftwood symbolizes endurance, stillness amidst changes, just like people who go through many storms but still keep their own soul.

Each piece of driftwood is also unique, there is no copy, so that every day passing by the miniature landscape, we are reminded that every moment in life cannot be repeated. 一期一会 (Ichi-go ichi-e) only once.

The Zen Garden at Silverland Sakyo Hotel

Opposite the bar in the lobby of the Silverland Sakyo Hotel is a small Zen garden (枯山水 - Karesansui), with a large rock symbolizing immutability, eternity, being a mountain, an island, being nature, and small clusters of rocks representing human relationships existing in life. The surrounding white gravel area is the water surface, the ocean, and the endless space where the circular waves are the flows of time, wind or dynamic consciousness. The dry garden is like a static energy area located near the bar, symbolizing sustainability and immortality. The concave and convex marks on the rocks tell the story of time, of experiences and beauty that does not lie in perfection.

The Japanese influence echoes throughout the Silverland Sakyo Hotel. Dark wood furniture, rooms flooded with sunlight, decorative details that decorate the resting corner every night, all prepare you for comfortable but extremely cozy rooms.

Japanese-Inspired Comfort in Every Room

Each of the 76 rooms of the Silverland Sakyo Hotel has its own story, combining Japanese features with the unchanging soul of Saigon. Our room types include Deluxe, Premier, Executive and Signature, ranging from 26-36m2 in size, each with its own unique decor and character.

Sit back on the soft sofa, enjoy a refreshing drink, keep your eyes on the Zen garden, and observe your inner self, feeling the tranquility of the natural world and the simple beauty of life. Breathe slowly and listen to the clear music of Satoko Ishimine with the symphony orchestra playing from the speakers cleverly placed in the corner of the house “Why does the sun go on shining?”
