How to Get from Ho Chi Minh Airport to District 1

After landing in Ho Chi Minh City, the easiest arrival is one that takes you to the right hotel entrance with as little uncertainty as possible. A taxi, app-booked car or pre-arranged hotel transfer is convenient with luggage. Public buses are an alternative when your arrival time, terminal and onward walk fit the route.

For travel from Ho Chi Minh Airport to District 1, start by checking that your flight uses Tan Son Nhat, airport code SGN, and note whether you arrive at T1, T2 or T3. The terminals have different pickup arrangements. In particular, bus 109 now serves T3, so older instructions directing every airport passenger to the same bus stop are no longer a useful starting point.

How long does the journey to the city centre take?

For planning, allow roughly 45 to 60 minutes for a car journey to a central hotel, with more time during heavy traffic or rain. This is a planning allowance, not a guaranteed journey time. The estimate in your chosen transport app will be more relevant when you are ready to leave.

Keep airport formalities separate from road travel. Immigration, baggage collection and the walk to a pickup point happen before the drive starts. A dinner reservation made for shortly after your scheduled landing can therefore leave less time than the map suggests.

“District 1” remains a familiar way to describe the downtown visitor area, but hotels are spread across different streets and neighbourhoods. Use the hotel’s full street address in the booking. Ben Thanh Market, Little Japan and the river area are all central destinations, yet they are not interchangeable drop-off points.

Check your terminal before choosing a pickup point

Tan Son Nhat has separate domestic and international facilities. Domestic flights use both T1 and T3, while T2 handles international services. Your flight information is the best starting point for choosing the correct terminal.

Do not use “domestic terminal” as the only pickup description. Send the terminal name to a pre-arranged driver, and select the correct terminal in a transport app. T3 is a separate building; changing terminals adds another step to the journey and is usually unnecessary if you can book a car from where you arrive.

For a return airport trip, check the terminal again against your airline’s latest flight details. The terminal used for your arrival does not determine the one you need for a different departure flight.

For two or more people, compare the total journey rather than only the price per passenger. A bus trip may still require a walk or another vehicle at the city end. A larger car can be worthwhile when it accommodates your luggage comfortably and takes everyone to the hotel together.

Once you have your luggage, select your hotel by its exact address and choose a vehicle suitable for your group. Review the pickup instructions before confirming: the pin may refer to a designated transport area rather than the door immediately outside baggage reclaim.

At T3, Grab’s published pickup guide directs arriving passengers to the ground level of the PNA parking building. Use the live app directions and airport signs for the final approach, since individual pickup arrangements can be adjusted.

Match the car and registration number to the booking, then keep communication and payment within the service you selected. The fare depends on your destination, vehicle and demand at the time. Check which charges are included instead of applying an old estimate of airport fees to every journey.

Using the airport taxi queue

Follow signs to the taxi area and give the dispatcher or driver your hotel’s complete address. Before setting off, understand whether you are paying by the meter or using a quoted fare, and how any additional charges will be handled.

A screenshot of your booking confirmation is useful when several hotels share the same brand name. “Silverland” alone is not a complete destination; the property name and street address will help you arrive at the right entrance.

Public buses: understand the route before boarding

Buses work best when you have light luggage, enough time and a convenient stop near your destination. Check both the airport stop and the city stop, together with the final walk. The route number alone does not tell you which terminal it serves.

Bus 109 from Terminal 3

Route 109 connects T3 with the Saigon Bus Station in the city centre. It was redirected to the new terminal in 2025. Do not use an older guide’s T1 or T2 pickup instructions for this route.

Before boarding, look up the live route and departure information through the Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Management Centre. Check the city stop against your hotel address. Arriving at the bus station still leaves the final part of the journey to your accommodation. Bus 152 and the 2026 fare changes

Route 152 links Tan Son Nhat, the Ben Thanh area and Trung Son. It is an option to investigate from the T1/T2 side of the airport, subject to the stop shown in the current route information.

The city’s July to December 2026 fare-support programme covers route 152. The announced phase from October includes passenger verification, so check the current boarding procedure, including the arrangements for visitors, before relying on a free journey. Earlier guides quoting a standard cash fare do not describe this temporary programme.

For either route, use the latest timetable on the day. A late arrival, a long wait or a difficult walk with bags can make a direct car the more comfortable choice even when a bus route reaches the centre.

Arranging a transfer with your hotel

A pre-arranged transfer can make the first part of your stay easier when you are travelling with children, several suitcases or a group. Share your flight number, date, arrival terminal, passenger count and luggage details so that the vehicle can be matched to the journey.

When arranging an arrival with us, include the full Silverland property name in your request. Ask for the meeting instructions, quoted price and waiting arrangements, particularly if your flight arrives late in the evening. Complimentary transfers apply only when they are included in your confirmed booking or offer.

Having the transfer organised does not mean that your room will be ready before the booked check-in time. If you land early, tell us your expected arrival time so that you can plan the first morning around the hotel’s confirmed arrangements.
