Shopping streets surrounding Ben Thanh market:

From the beginning, the shophouses were built surrounding Ben Thanh Market in a U-shape structure. All of these three-storey row houses brought a sense of harmony and symmetry to the market architecture, forming a neat market area.

On the right side of the market, where the market’s East Gate (Cua Dong) is located, is Rue de Viénot (now Phan Boi Chau street), right opposite the gate is Rue de Sabouraine (now Luu Van Lang street).

On the opposite (West Gate) is Rue de Schroeder (now Phan Chau Trinh street). There is a small street on the West Gate side named Amiral Courbet (now Nguyen An Ninh street), leading to Rue de Amiral Rose (now Truong Dinh street).

The South Gate (Cua Nam) is the most highlighted one with the clock tower on top, adjacent to Bonard Avenue (Le Loi), which is also a busy bus station.

Along the North Gate (Cua Bac) is Rue de Espagne (now Le Thanh Ton street), and in the 1940s - 1950s onwards, there were a series of gold shops.

These numerous shophouses enrich the rich variety of goods and services of Ben Thanh market. During the French colonial period, many of the houses were tea shops, wine shops, bakeries, jewellery shops, hotels and pharmacies. Rue de Amiral Courbet (now Nguyen An Ninh street), where our Silverland Ben Thanh Hotel is located, had many Indian fabric shops, tailor shops, and jewellery shops. Chinese, Vietnamese, and Indians do business together in Ben Thanh market and the surrounding streets.
